Advancing Improvements at the MTA

In the 2019 Session it was my pleasure to help pass legislation that would ensure upgrades to the electrical substation that is located under Grand Canal Court Park at the corner of Avenue of the Americas and Canal Street. This will allow for necessary upgrades to the power load along the A, C, and E lines in order to install upgrades that will allow the MTA to run more trains at a more frequent rate along that subway line.
Thankfully, the easement that needed to be alienated in order to allow the MTA to pursue this objective was entirely below grade and once complete the general public will see no change to the amount of park space on the basketball courts. However, during construction, the courts will not be accessible. I am still glad to see a positive outcome for transit needs in New York City.
